For pet owners, choosing where or whether to go on holiday can be a headache. Fortunately, if you are looking to escape to the beautiful county of Devon, there are plenty of beaches, pubs and other attractions you can visit where taking your pet will not be a problem. Some of these are presented in the short list below.

1) InstowBeach is one of the most popular and picturesque walking beaches in North Devon, and its sands are now welcome to all dogs – providing they are well-behaved! With an excellent dog-friendly pub, The Bar, nearby, Instow offers an enchanting atmosphere and stunning views towards the nearby fishing village of Appledore. Part of the privately owned Christie Estate, Instow has a flat, vast expanse of sand that pets and their owners will both appreciate. Dogs will also enjoy paddling in the crystal clear waters. Bustling with holidaymakers at the height of summer, this quaint village is also worth visiting throughout the winter months, as the beach can be all but empty and offer even more space to explore.

2) Holne, a lovely village near the town of Ashburton, is home to the dog-friendly Church House Inn. Set within the borders of wild Dartmoor, this pub is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day’s walking through the seemingly endless surrounding countryside. Offering an excellent menu and a fine selection of drinks, the Church House is a traditional inn which also has several genuine log fires that you and your dog will enjoy warming up next to. Although dogs must be on a lead at all times, they are sure not to mind after being worn out by their walking, which you should make sure includes a trip to the nearby historic river Dart.

3) Once you are ready for a day’s rest after trekking through the countryside, a great choice would be to visit the beautiful gardens of Arlington Court. Dogs are permitted, on leads, which will allow you both to enjoy the site’s beautiful and informal thirty acres, including its large walled kitchen garden, conservatory and ornamental pond. Arlington Court also has shopping and restaurant facilities for you to take your time exploring. Set amongst the stunning wooded valley of the River Yeo, this is one dog-friendly attraction which you definitely should not miss out on.

So, if you are wondering whether a holiday or long weekend in Devon would mean having to leave your pet behind, there is no need to worry. There are plenty of attractions which you are both sure to appreciate.
