Got a big date, a photo opportunity or simply an outfit that you must fit into? What are your options if you MUST lose weight and you only have a week to do it.

Option One– Eat or drink foods that are natural diuretics, such as leeks, celery, cranberry juice (unsweetened), dandelion tea. I have to say that most of these recipes are never going to be wildly popular. But people trying to lose weight in a week are highly motivated and willing to consume foods that they would normally pass on. The danger with any diuretic option is that you may find all, or most, of the weight returning when you stop consuming the diuretic, which can be very disheartening.

Option Two: Diet. The problem with going ON a diet, is that even the language indicates a not normal state. You are going ON a diet. You TRY to stay on a diet. Eventually when you achieve your goal, or lose interest or willpower, you will go off the diet. This is why diets fail to make us thinner for more than a moment. After depriving ourselves, we are likely to binge and feel entitled to every goodie in the cupboard. You could easily end up gaining MORE weight than you lost during the week.

Changing your diet to eat healthier foods with lots of fruits and vegetables, is a good idea. This will help you lose weight, but not a lot in just a week.

Option Three Exercise The easiest way to exercise is to start your day with a quick bit of exercising – lift a few weights, do an abdominal workout before going off to work or school. Then add walking, lots of it, throughout your day.

Anyone can find time to walk. New mothers trying to lose pregnancy weight, can put the baby in a stroller or carrier and enjoy some fresh air. Or, if it’s January, try going to the local mall, even a big grocery store can be used if your options are limited. Walk upstairs and down, many times a day. To burn a pound of fat, you need to use 3500 calories. If you weigh 180 pounds you will burn 100 calories a mile (approximately 15 minutes of walking). Five miles a day will take a pound off by the end of the week, but you’ll get much faster results by adding in stairs as much as you can.

The advantage of exercising like crazy for the week is that there is no boomerang effect. You aren’t going to sit on the couch even more after walking five miles per day one week. Instead, all that exercise may change your perception of what you are capable of and make you catch the exercise bug. Therefore this is an excellent option.

Option 4: Colon-cleansing – More and more people are purchasing books, products, programs to cleanse their colon. Everyone has undigested junk in their digestive system and cleaning it out can help flatten one’s stomach and shed some pounds quickly. Just be careful to get a doctor’s approval before trying one of these programs as they can have strong side-effects for otherwise healthy people. Do your homework on these programs, and choose one where you can reach a real person if you have questions.

These fast-acting weight loss strategies can also be combined, which generally brings still faster results. While these weight loss options can also be disruptive, do you care? It’s only for one week.
